Visarjan day
On the day of visarjan, before Ganpati leaves the house, there is one last puja at home: the uttar puja.
- Bathe, and apply pinjar to your forehead before sitting down.
- Achaman. Recite the 24 names of Vishnu, then sip water the same way as in the first puja.
- Sankalp, with water in the right palm, stating that this is the uttar puja.
- Offer gandh and akshata, then wave agarbatti and the lamp.
- Offer naivedya of milk and sugar.
- Sing one aarti of Ganpati.
- Pradakshina and namaskar.
- Pack dahi-pohe in a cloth, as provisions for Ganpati's journey.
- With akshata and flowers in your hands, say यान्तु देवगणाः सर्वे, offer them on the murti, and move the pat slightly towards the north. That small move marks the start of the journey.
Take the nirmalya you kept through the festival with you, to be immersed along with the murti.
